a workshop poem in the style of a persian ghazal.
by harlan blynn
The drive to Salida is smooth unless
Traffic chokes on a zippered merge unless
Heroes blaze in orange and lights brighter flashing
Pierce through the fog and smoke unless
It’s a sunny day with blue skies
A blue jay dances and darts unless
A big yellow dump disturbs the wind
And breaks the bird’s lifted flight unless
Daddy weaves a wondrous tale of pink princesses and purple ponies
To a 3 year old making movies in her head. Unless.
